Yu Darvish shuts down the Yankees

Yu Darvish pitched a fantastic game tonight. The Yankees couldn't really get anything going besides a bases loaded nobody out third inning. Even with that, this high powered Yankee lineup failed to drive in a single run. Ian Kinsler's homerun was all Darvish needed to win this game. Kuroda actually pitched well tonight holding the Texas offense to only two runs, but he ends up taking another loss.

Gardner to return on May 3rd

"Yankees manager Joe Girardi said he expects Brett Gardner to be ready to return from the 15-day disabled list on May 3, when he's eligible.
The Yankees begin a series against the Royals that day.
"My thought is he will [be ready]," Girardi said. "If it takes a few more days, it takes a few more days." Gardner was placed on the disabled list Wednesday with what was termed as right elbow soreness. An MRI showed a bone bruise and a strained extensor muscle on the outside of his elbow. Andruw Jones and Raul Ibanez will form a platoon in left until Gardner returns. "

Game #16: Yankees vs. Rangers- Monday, April 23, 7:05

CC vs. Holland

At 13-3, Texas holds the best record in baseball and are one of the best hitting teams.  The have two players (Hamilton and Napoli) with 6 home runs and 5 players with 10 or more RBIs.  Josh Hamilton and Michael Young are both off to great starts and it's up to CC (1-0) to stop them.  CC will get the ball tonight because of the rain out last night.  It will be a great test for CC as he comes in with a 5.59 ERA.  Definitely not what you expect out of him, but its still early in the season.

In the other dugout, the Rangers will put Derek Holland (2-0) on the rubber who has had some trouble with Yankee batters. Holland has never beaten the Yankees in the regular season (0-4), but he does have one victory in the 2010 ALCS.  Of all the batters Mark Teixeira holds the best numbers going 7/15 with 3 home runs and 8 RBIs.  Hopefully he can build on his 6 RBI game on Saturday and continue to punish Holland.

Pineda set for dye-contrast MRI on Monday

As you may have heard, the 23 year old starting pitcher that was acquired by the Yankees by trading Jesus Montero has faced another setback.  Michael Pineda was scheduled to pitch in an extended spring training game when he experienced "shoulder weakness."  Because of this he has been completely shut down for the time being.

Before this injury he was projected to come back to the Yankee rotation in early May.  He only lasted 15 pitches in the rehab assignment.  This is horrible news for the Yankees considering how bad the Yankee starters have been this year.  Only the Twins starting rotation is worst at this point in the season.  If it was not for the explosive bats and shutdown bullpen this team could be in a lot of trouble.  Do not expect Pineda to be on the mound anytime soon as he is scheduled for a dye-contrast MRI on Monday to see if anything was missed.  The earliest possible return will probably be sometime in June, but we will find out more information on this sometime tomorrow.

The good news for the Yankee rotation (which may be bad news for Freddy Garcia) is the fact that Andy Pettitte will be back soon, possibly as early as Mid- May.  It seems as if Phil Hughes spot is safe for now and Garcia is in the hot seat.  His era is currently 9.75 and he only lasted 1 2/3 innings last night.

Andy Pettitte is slated to pitch 80-85 pitches on Wednesday with the Double-A Trenton team.

“If I don’t pitch good enough, that’s my problem,” he (Garcia) said, after getting blasted in the Yankees’ 15-9 comeback over the Red Sox. “I’m not thinking about who’s coming back or they’ll bring back. It’s not my job to worry about it. My job to worry about is pitch good, that’s all.” (NJ.com)

Yankees vs Red Sox: 15-9 Comeback Win

Yesterday was a crazy day in baseball.  Phil Humber tossed the 21st perfect game in Major League Baseball history while facing the Mariners.  During the time Fox 5 switched to that game, the Yankees began to start their comeback from their 9-1 deficit.  Oddly enough, the Yankees ended up erasing a 9 run lead and ultimately won the game by 6 runs.  It was one of the craziest games I have seen in a while and it couldn't have felt any better against any other team in the league.  Sadly, Yankee fans will not be happy to hear that tonight's game is cancelled.  However, it will be a nice rest as the Yankees play the Rangers for a three game series starting tomorrow.
